OTHELLO THE REMIX

OTHELLO10OTHELLO THE REMIX, written, directed and music by GQ and JQ and developed with Rick Benyon, was a rap and hip hop version of Shakespeare’s classic tragedy.

The production featured an all male cast who also cover the female roles.

Othello was played by the very talented Postell Pringle.

Dressed in grey jumpsuits like prisoners, the actors didn’t miss a beat. Energy and momentum were sustained throughout. Emphasis was shown through repetition. The language was vivid and the moves were smooth and well choreographed, for example in ‘The Cassio Glide’. There was a good use of humour through the show. Set and props were minimal.

Villainous and manipulative Iago – “slimy as a snake…call me a chameleon. A master puppeteer” was played to perfection by GQ. Great performances were also delivered by Clayton Stamper, JQ and Jackson Doran.

The show ended to rapturous applause. Great entertainment.

A production by the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre and Richard Jordan Productions, OTHELLO THE REMIX played between the 23rd and 26th January at the York Theatre, Seymour Centre as part of this year’s Sydney Festival.
