JackRabbit Theatre presents HIJACKED RABBIT with four new plays @ Blood Moon Theatre

JackRabbit Theatre presents four brand new, one act short Australian plays as part of its “HiJacked Rabbit” season. All four comedy plays are genuinely funny, but with four very different story-lines.

JackRabbit Theatre have previously presented three very entertaining and special comedy plays at the Depot Theatre:-   Front, Sex Object and Dirty People.

First up was “Hit” and after a short interval “Gate 64”. On the following night “Orange is the New Crack” and  then after a short interval “It’s Mars Time”. All four comedy plays are recommended, please book for two consecutive nights to see all four.

“Hit” written and expertly directed by Lincoln Vickery, cleverly showed the reality behind the hidden secret lives of contract killers, hit-men and hit-women, with death offered for a reasonable price. This comedy constantly escalated as lie after lie was exposed, with more and more consequences. The hit-man has a dead hit-woman in his apartment, when his partner unexpectedly arrives home early with fresh salmon and groceries. He is then forced at gunpoint to hide from the boss and later from the fixer (the cleaner) who was a model of efficiency by quickly removing the deceased and hiding the crime.

“Gate 64” is all about one strange woman, a skillful force of nature called Winnie, featuring Jane Watt, and directed by Michael Abercromby. Winnie lives at our domestic airport terminal and quickly moves from gate to gate. She is a motor-mouth who deliberately distracts a constant supply of travellers, that are all trying to avoid her, and kept the opening night audience, laughing again and again. Winnie received a well deserved standing ovation. Sit in the front row, and you too will become part of the constantly changing performance paradigm.

“Orange is the New Crack” directed by Charlotte Devenport, has truly inspired writing, penned by James Sweeny. In that era, some ten thousand years ago, fruit originally provided the ultimate substance abuse. Gwen (Jane Watt) is the brains and Sue (Zoe Jensen) is the brawn, and together they are the world’s first drug dealer team, selling fruit to all who can afford to pay. Their fruit supplier (Michael Abercromby) is an ultra-cool fruit-addicted banana grower. So many great one-liners, together with the dealers measured perfect performances, delivered laughter galore. Michael Abercromby excelled in his multiple roles. Zoe Jensen proves the exquisite truth that every cave woman can hunt, despite the restrictions of their man dominated society.

“It’s Mars Time” directed by Charlotte Devenport, featuring the manic high-energy team leader Judy (Emma O’Sullivan) and we are all inside her beautiful bunker, immediately after World War Three destroyed Sydney. This survivalist comedy adventure, quickly conscripts willing audience members, with laughter created from the mistakes and very unrealistic expectations of always optimistic Judy. After discovering an engineer in her bunker, real rocket science is required to build inside her bunker, a spaceship big enough to take her thirty survivors to Mars.

Starring: Michael Abercromby, Charlotte Devenport, Elle Harris, Zoe Jensen, Emma O’Sullivan, Adam Sollis, James Sweeny, Seamus Quinn, Lincoln Vickery and Jane Watt. Produced by Loredana Cross.
