IDEAS/CREATE PROGRAM: NEW FROM DARLINGHURST THEATRE CO

Some very special events coming soon to Darlinghurst Theatre Company as part of their IDEAS/CREATE Program.

"At the very heart of Darlinghurst Theatre Company is a firm belief that our responsibility as an arts organisation is to promote a democracy of ideas and foster dialogue and discussion in our community. This leads DTC to support public forums, festivals, events and performances that bring diverse, vital and topical conversations to our stage."

The first performance in the program comes after a Lecture by Christy Newman of the UNSW Centre for Social Research in Health and a Forum: Feminism & Human Rights in Childbirth (Presented by Birth Time, supported by Darlinghurst Theatre Company).

THE DOLL, a NSW premiere written by Miro Gavran, is slated for  Friday 9th and Saturday 10th March 7:30pm and is presented by Croatia House Inc.  and supported by Darlinghurst Theatre Company

Mark’s long-term relationship breaks down due to his reluctance for marriage and children. He cannot bear the loneliness and after a few months he begins to live with a woman-doll, the latest android designed to make men happy.

However, the android was designed by a female scientist, who has plenty of her own views on male-female relationships. Gradually Mark becomes aware of the mistakes for which his girlfriend left him.

Miro Gavran is a contemporary Croatian author whose works have been translated into 40 languages, and his dramas and comedies have had more than 300 theatre premieres around the world. Miro is the winner of the prestigious international “Dr Alois Mock Europapreis 2017” award.
