So where do you go with your special lady, friend or even your wife on a Wednesday night? Or with your mates on a boys’ (or girls’) night out? Somewhere memorable. Unusual. And not too noisy…

You go to SLIDE  at 41 Oxford St Darlinghurst and see El Circo Blanc.  And you eat a five course degustation menu. Slide is a cabaret lounge that used to be a Commonwealth Bank.

The theme of this production is a circus and it is playing every Wednesday night. It is based on a concept by Marc Kuzma, and directed by James Taylor.

You will see Mr Gorski (Daniel Gorski) the clown, shuffling among the tables of diners, broom in hand making a pleasant nuisance of himself. Babuska (Alicia Quinn) singing of her life in the Russian circus. An array of contortionists and acrobats almost under your very nose performing astonishing feats of mind muscle control and concentration. See gusts of wind tearing at hands grimly holding onto umbrellas as they are swept away during a storm . But there is no storm and there is no wind. Marvel as Anushka (Lauren Kyle) and Tatiana (Missy) entwine themselves around each others’ arms and legs in a stunning duo high above the floor. No safety net.

See Mishka (Jack Dawson) ascending and descending  double lanyards of cloth hung from the ceiling in a breathtaking display of ferocious energy. Listen to and see Carmina Burana in a way you have never dreamt of hearing or seeing. Watch Petr Pavlov do a pole dance and drool.. perhaps even if you are a male.

It will take you a long time to forget this array of the spectacular. We walked out lightly from the restaurant, stepped into our car, and drove home with images from the show vibrant and dancing in our minds.
