Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular is a musical celebration of the iconic BBC television series which started in 1963, and in 2014 celebrated its 50th anniversary. This extraordinary musical event, has been inspired by the BBC Doctor Who Proms held each year at London’s Royal Albert Hall, since 2008.

An enormous improvement on  the limitations  of the BBC Doctor Who Proms, The Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular was last seen in Sydney from 15 to 21 December 2012 at the Sydney Opera House with the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra.

The Doctor Who Symphonic Spectacular has finally returned to Australia. Touring during January and February 2015 in Adelaide, Perth and then with two SYDNEY sold-out shows at the Qantas Credit Union Arena on Saturday 7th February 2015.

The eighth series of the world’s longest-running sci-fi television show was recently screened in Australia, and Doctor Who fans were again given the opportunity to encounter many of the most fearsome monsters of the hit BBC television series, set against the backdrop of Murray Gold’s captivating musical scores, from the last few seasons of Doctor Who as performed by The Metropolitan Orchestra, conducted by Ben Foster.

A two hour performance by Australia’s finest musicians and singers, and featuring a cast of over 145 musicians, actors and singers, and hosted by the Fifth Doctor, Peter Davison, not to mention live appearances from the spine-chilling Silence, awe-inspiring Cybermen and the famous Daleks, and a host of many other Doctor Who monsters from the last fifty years, on stage and moving around the arena.

Above the stage, three huge video screens featured special edited sequences of Peter Capaldi’s debut as the Twelfth Doctor, and from Peter Capaldi‘s performances as the Twelfth Doctor in Season Eight and the Christmas Episode too. We were also treated to Matt Smith‘s performances as the Eleventh Doctor, in fact we were shown all twelve actors who have played the role of The Doctor, while iconic Doctor Who monsters also roamed the aisles.

The highly appreciative audience demanded and received three encores, and with two well deserved standing ovations at the end.
