THE BOLD, THE YOUNG AND THE MURDERED @ BANKSTOWN ARTS CENTRE

Can you guess “who done it”? This fun production by Bankstown Theatre Company will have you guessing to the very end. The long running soap-opera The Bold and the Young is in its last day with ratings tumbling and a cast with serious personality issues ranging from an obsession with soup, self-esteem problems to slightly psychopathic tendencies.

The executive producer give this motley mix of actors an ultimatum, either complete one episode overnight or the show will be cut. But shortly after the director is murdered and then in quick succession several of the other cast members meet the same fate. Can these unlikely Sherlock Holmes discover the murderer before the show is literally killed off?!

The cast of 13 actors gives this comedy/mystery by Don Zolidis a life of its own as it pokes fun at the characters in soap operas and the actors portraying these. I defy any audience member to pick the ending with several twists to ensure one’s interest is held to the very last.

A simple set with an emphasis on lighting changes and atmospheric music enhances the mood.

Jake Strong/ Morris Nyborg, (Simon Fry) considers himself to be the moral compass of the play but is really a faded heart throb with a saggy bottom.

Oli, (Ben Dodd) is the long suffering director battling with an uncooperative cast.

Keri (Jessica Green), an apparently air-headed new intern, infuriates the others with her unrelenting enthusiasm.

Eileen Silversteadt/ Amy White  (Ann Marie McAdams) fancies herself as the central character and love interest of younger men.

Mona Jeffries/ Cybil Dane (Diane Wilson) has seen better days on the stage but is determined to stay.

Mary Miles (Jodie Dalley) the executive producer demands more from the cast and locks then inside the studio for the night with fatal consequences.

Kaitlin (NicoleTytherleigh) begins as the stage manager but progress to greater power as the, murders begin.

Valencio de Carpathio/ John Burke (Malcolm Gregory) a grumpy old man who remembers the glory days of the show.

Sebastian Strong/ Bill Wiley(Edward Rooke) is the rather sleazy play boy of the piece.

Sequoiya/ Lily Baumgartner  (Renee Dimech) is an odd character who at times wields a softball bat.

Jessica Silversteadt/ Danielle Farris (Jessica McSweeney) is a novice actress with high hopes and, for the rest of the cast, annoyingly excessive enthusiasm.

Dr. William Bradley/ Tyler Tripodo (Jordan Jansons) is a self-centred character who believes he is above the other actors and destined for great success.

Brooke (Amanda Griffith) is the mostly apathetic camerawoman.

This production, directed by Arthur Pickering, is engaging & entertaining, For a light hearted romp make your way over to the  Bankstown Arts Centre where the play runs until April 2.
